Watch the Night @ the Connexion
Dec 31 2016 @ 5:00 pm – Jan 1 2017 @ 8:00 am
Watch the Night @ the Connexion | Bowling Green | Kentucky | United States

In medieval times, on the night before his knighting ceremony, a squire would keep vigil in the castle chapel until dawn, praying and performing other rituals to prepare himself spiritually, mentally, and physically for his new life ahead in the service of his lord. His armor and his sword lay on the altar, as he sought the blessing of God, on Whom he would depend for strength, protection, and guidance, as he faced a future that promised danger and difficulty as well as honor and glory.

This New Year’s Eve, join us for a Teen-Extreme “Watch the Night” experience, as we welcome the new year with worship, fellowship, food, prayer, and heavy doses of Arts Alive! style fun – games, challenges, skits, and more! We’ll stay up all night together, remembering the year behind us and looking forward to God’s designs for the year ahead.

COURTS FOR CHRIST @ Barren County High School - Trojan Gym
Feb 15 @ 6:30 pm

FCA Students from Barren County High School will be hosting a night of worship to share their Christian faith with fellow students at the inaugural event “Courts for Christ”. All youth groups are encouraged to move their gathering to Trojan Gym on Wednesday night, February 15th at 6:30.

For the first time in Barren County’s history, students from surrounding counties will gather together in a building intended for competition where they will worship as one body in Christ. Brian Runyon, Western Kentucky University’s FCA leader, will be speaking along with three other students who will give their personal testimonies. Worship pastor, Jenson Woodie, from River Pointe Church will be leading the group in a time of praise. Students were inspired to plan and host this event after a successful Fields of Faith event in the fall during football season. Their ultimate goal is to extend the idea of youth worship throughout the school year.

There are a few reasons why this event is being held on Wednesday. Students in church youth groups typically meet on Wednesday nights. Hosting Courts for Christ on this night simply moves the location of their regular meetings to join in unity with other churches and campus ministries in their community. Most gyms are free this night because they are hosting games and activities during the other days of the week. Also, many teams end their practices earlier on Wednesday nights.

Those tested must be in good health and be over the age of 18 but under the age of 44. If you cannot attend the drive you can still help by registering online at: join.bethematch.org/ABatch4kyone

St. James 5th Annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser @ Sloan Convention Center
Feb 23 @ 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm

We are excited to announce that the Fifth Annual Empty Bowls event will be taking place in Bowling Green on February 23, 2017!  Empty Bowls works with artists and members of the community to help raise funds and awareness to end hunger in our communities.

Everyone is invited.  Food for the dinner will be provided by SKYCTC Culinary students, as well as local individuals On the night of the event each person attending will be asked to make a minimum donation of $10.  Each guest may then select a bowl from the many beautiful bowls created by our area artists.  They are then served a simple meal of soup and bread, along with a beverage.  After the meal, each person gets to take the bowl home with them.  It makes a beautiful addition to their home, and also serves as a reminder that there are many empty bowls in our community that go unfilled each day.

All funds from the event are donated to area charities which focus on providing food to those who are hungry.  All money raised in the upcoming event is going to be distributed equally between the Manna Mart at HOTEL INC and the Life Care Ministry run by the University Church of Christ.

We are asking area potters (professionals, amateurs, and students) to make bowls throughout the upcoming months to donate to our event.  Last year, through the hard work of volunteers we were able to display over 900 hand crafted bowls, and we are hoping, that with the involvement of both student and adult volunteers to have even more beautiful bowls for our guests to choose from on the night of the big event. If you would like more information about our event, or would like to contribute, please visit our contact page and fill out the form and someone will contact you as soon as possible.  Working together, through simple acts of kindness, we can make a tremendous difference in the lives of all those around us.

These veterans can be VA appointed who are unwilling due to bad habits caused by PTSD, drugs, alcohol or other addictions or willing; veteran’s that understand they have a problem and seek our help to manage their resources.

Just as you are patriotic by attending the veterans parade, we are asking for your patriotism by joining us in April to help support those veterans that our country has forgotten. Some of these veterans have battle scars that aren’t physically shown but manifest themselves through PTSD and TBI. All proceeds will go to helping Veterans who need support such as shelter food, clothing, home appliances, furniture and in some extreme cases a PTSD Therapy Dog. We ask for your support on April 8th, 2017!

Passover Seder Banquet in Bowling Green @ Passover Seder Banquet @ Sloan Convention Center
Apr 15 @ 5:30 pm

Passover is a special time, not only to Jewish people worldwide, but is prominent throughout the New Testament as well. Passover commemorates the deliverance of the Jewish people from slavery in Egypt under Moses. The New Testament records Jesus being in Jerusalem at Passover a number of times, beginning as a child. It is no accident that he died on Passover, at the time of day the Passover lambs were slain.

We will be having our Annual Passover Seder Banquet on April 15, 2017 at 5:30 p.m. at the Sloan Convention Center in Bowling Green, KY. The Seder will include music, dancing, the afikomen, the 4 Questions, a several-course meal, and much more.

As we proceed through the Haggadah, the telling of the Passover story, we will also see the special relationship between Jesus and Passover in 1st Century Israel.

The Registration Form for the Seder can be obtained at www.hopeinmessiah.org. One who registers an entire table of ten (10) people will receive a 10% discount. This is a great time to bring guests, young and old, Jewish or non-Jewish.

Please call Deborah Morgan at 270-670-6781 if you have any questions regarding registration or the Passover Seder. We wish you the best at this time of year, and always.

This tournament has been organized to honor his memory and to establish a memorial scholarship in his name, as well as to thank the Barren County EMT and Rescue Squad who so diligently searched for David. We have many wonderful things planned for the day including a raffle of some great prizes, t-shirts, free food and honoring our great and mighty God who has been with us every step of the way as we planned this tournament. CASA Superhero Run/Walk @ Kereiakes Park
May 13 @ 8:30 am

CASA of South Central Kentucky will be holding its 4th Annual Superhero 5k and Kids 1 mile run presented by Cheetah Clean Auto Wash on Saturday, May 13, 2017, at 8:30 am at Kereiakes Park, in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Superman was adopted. Spiderman was raised by his aunt and uncle. Batman grew up with his butler, Alfred, and later took in Robin to raise as his ward. Few superheroes grew up in a typical family situation raised by their own parents, yet they all accomplished great things as adults. CASA, a non-profit that advocates for children who’ve experienced abuse and neglect, believes all children deserve the chance to grow up happy and healthy. Competitive runners and walkers, recreational walkers, employee groups, and families are all invited to become “superheroes” for the day by participating in this healthy and fun activity. To register online, please visit: https://raceroster.com/events/2017/10443/2017-casa-superhero-5k

Event registration and check-in begins at 7:30 am at the shelter at Kereiakes Park. The 1 mile Kids Run for Kids begins at 8:30 a.m. The 5K Run/Walk starts at 9:00 am. The 5k Run will be a timed race. At 9:45 am, after the 5k, there will be a Superhero Costume Contest while we await tally of race winners. Participants are encouraged to dress up as their favorite Superhero to show their spirit as a hero against child abuse and neglect!
