The Damascus Road Experience, Inc. (DRE), a 501 (c))(3) nonprofit based in Bowling Green, Ky., will host a DRE Talk about mental illness on April 24 from noon until 1:30 p.m. at the WCPL Main Library in Bowling Green. This event is free and open to the public. The first 10 guests will receive a free swag bag just for attending. Those planning to attend can register by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The keynote speaker will be Stevyn Lee, DRE co-founder, and former WKU student. Stevyn will talk about his travel to China as an excited college graduate who was about to undertake his first teaching role as a college professor, and his return to America as a drugged and confused young man soon to be confronted with an illness that doctors cannot heal.
A panel discussion and Q&A with local practitioners will follow the DRE Talk. Panel participants will address the impact of mental illness on Bowling Green’s community to include people of color, the intersectionality of law enforcement and the mentally ill, social stigma and the church’s role, if any, in perpetuating the stigma, and even more.
