How Desperate Are You?

The desperation we feel in our lives can drive us to many different things and places. It can take us down a path of anxiety, fear, worry, and doubt. Does our desperation drive us to God?

1 Samuel 11 tells of how a foreign king took control of a city in Israel, and messengers were sent to seek help. When the people heard their plight and how the foreign king planned to harm and enslave their kinsmen, they lifted up their voices and wept, desperate for an answer.

When Jaime MacDonald’s new song “Desperate” came out, people instantly connected because she expressed a deep need and desire that so many people feel. We might see desperation as a bad thing or a weakness, but I believe God wants us to be desperate for Him each and every day. Not just in times when things are falling apart, but to have a deep longing and need for His presence and protection at all times.

Oh God, I’m desperate
Down on my knees
Send help from heaven
‘Cause that’s what I need
Redeem this wreckage
Restore my peace
I’m not asking, I’m begging
Lord, come through for me
I need heaven and I’m desperate

Jamie shares that as a kid singing wasn’t even allowed in her house but it was music that helped her through some of the darkest times in her life.

Being in prison would be a time when you might think people feel most desperate, and maybe that is what is needed to find true joy. That’s something Jaime says she discovered while doing prison ministry.

How desperate are we to see God move in the lives of others?
