Meeting God in the Middle with Natalie Layne

When Natalie Layne joined Larry & Bridget on the Christian Family Radio Morning Show, the conversation covered everything from baseball, road trips, and improvised music to pet parrots and favorite worship songs. But woven throughout the laughter was a message that many of us needed to hear.

God isn’t just the God of the beginning and the end. He’s the God of the middle.

As Natalie reflected on her current season of life and ministry, she shared a thought that has been resonating deeply in her own walk with Christ.

“We think of God as the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. But sometimes we forget that He’s also the God of the middle.”

What a comforting reminder.

Most of us aren’t standing at a dramatic beginning. We haven’t reached the finish line either. We’re somewhere in between—navigating unanswered questions, waiting on prayers, walking through challenges, celebrating small victories, and trusting God one step at a time.

That’s where many of life’s hardest moments happen. And according to Natalie, that’s exactly where God meets us. “He is very much in the middle, weeping with us, walking with us, and being kind to us.”

Those words beautifully echo the message behind her song, The Long Way, which has become a favorite among Christian Family Radio listeners this summer. While many “summer songs” are upbeat and carefree, listeners have connected with The Long Way because it speaks to something deeper—the journey of faith itself.

Faith was never meant to be a sprint toward a destination. It’s a daily walk with a Savior who promises His presence every step of the way.

Finding Joy While We Wait

Natalie also shared a Scripture that had encouraged her that very morning:

“Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.” — Romans 12:12

In a world that constantly urges us to move faster, achieve more, and find immediate answers, God’s invitation is different.

Whether you’re celebrating a season of blessing or carrying a burden that no one else can see, God invites you to bring it all before Him. Even if you only have a minute between appointments, errands, or responsibilities, you can pause and meet with Him.

A simple prayer. A moment of gratitude. A quiet conversation with your Heavenly Father.

Those moments matter.

God’s Presence in the Chaos

Toward the end of the conversation, Larry shared a thought that perfectly complemented Natalie’s message.

He had recently been reading in Genesis and was reminded that the Holy Spirit hovered over the chaos before creation.

What if the chaos in our own lives isn’t proof that God is absent?

What if it’s an opportunity for Him to move?

The same Spirit who brought order out of darkness still works in the middle of our uncertainty today.

When life feels messy, confusing, or incomplete, we can trust that God is still present, still working, and still faithful.

An Invitation for Today

Maybe you’re in the middle of something right now.

The middle of a waiting season, a difficult diagnosis, raising children, grief, a dream that hasn’t happened yet. Or maybe you’re simply in the middle of an ordinary week.

Wherever you find yourself, remember this: God isn’t waiting for you at the finish line. He’s walking with you today. He’s present in the process. He’s faithful in every season.

We can’t wait to welcome Natalie Layne to Faith & Family Night with the Bowling Green Hot Rods on July 17. Until then, take a moment today to rejoice in hope, remain constant in prayer, and trust the God who never leaves your side—especially in the middle of the journey.
