On Sunday, March 16th RiverLake Church held two services in the Historic Plaza Theatre in Glasgow, KY with special guest New York Times Best Selling Author John Burke. John Burke, author of “Imagine Heaven and Imagine the God of Heaven,” is a pastor and international speaker that has spoken to more than 100,000 people in 30 countries on leadership and spiritual growth.
John Burke shared his research from the Bible and stories from 1st person witnesses of their near death experiences with God to answer questions of the afterlife. Everyone wants an answer: Is there anything after death? The faithful believe – the skeptic wants some kind of proof. This was an incredible event. So grateful to Riverlake Church for bringing this dynamic opportunity to Glasgow. I met so many people who drove from out of state to attend.
I believe whether you are a believer or not, we have all been curious about what happens after life.
John Burke has documented over 1500 near death experiences. He shared video testimonies of people that had encountered both heaven and hell. These are real people that have come back to live after being clinically dead.
There are common experiences that many of them shared such as your senses in the afterlife are extraordinary, recognition and communication occurs from your heart and heaven is relational. Another common thread was people having a life review, literally where their life is replayed for them with Jesus and the angels present. This experience was not to experience shame or guilt but to see God’s grace for us in failure and trials as well as highlight the times in our life when we chose love and compassion for others. Worldly accolades and material worth is absolutely irrelevant .
I was deeply impacted by John Burke’s personal transformation, he was a man of science and never wanted to be someone that researched Near Death Experiences much less write a book chronicling his research.
His challenge for all of us is to not reject God for He is love, itself. God is very interested in our heart, how we love and who we love.
