If you think “worship” is that time in the church service where you sing some songs, you’d be right, but it’s so much more. Online, worship as a noun is explained as “the feeling or expression of reverence and adoration” for God; as a verb it’s showing reverence and adoration for God. It makes sense that music is a great way to do that. At Christian Family Radio (CFR), we know worship can happen anytime and anywhere—inside a church service or outside of it, and yes, with music or without. But obviously, we prefer with music!
Music can help us experience a deeper connection with God and each other. That’s because music has a way of unifying diverse people around a single focus. And when the single focus is to worship God, a whole group is unified in Spirit and Truth. A true Kentucky commonwealth, if you will. That’s why CFR partners with venues and concert tours to bring Christian artists to our region. We promote these events on our events webpage (christianfamilyradio.com/events) and with a lot of on-air promotion. For example, here’s what’s coming up this Summer:
Cochren and Company FREE concert @ Beaver Creek Park in Glasgow on Friday June 27th
Faith and Family Night @ BG Hot Rods Stadium on Friday July 18th
Zach Williams @ SKyPAC on Friday August 8th
Crowder @ SKyPAC on Friday September 5th
Our region is blessed to have multiple Christian concerts at local venues where artists share music and stories that deepen faith and relationships. People come from all over the region, even travelling from other parts of the U.S. At these music events, it’s like a family reunion, even if the person next to you is technically a stranger. You share the commonwealth of Jesus, and you leave fuller than when you arrived.
Then the next day the ripple-effect happens. All that we experience takes root in our spirit, mind, and body. We have more love, peace, and strength. We carry that to our families, churches, workplaces, all the circles we are a part of, and we watch God exponentially multiply what we received. Only with Kingdom math can you make a subtraction (pour out worship) and add to your life (peace, faith, and joy).
Recently, it’s not just venues and concerts that are experiencing the ripple-effect of worship music. In early May, WKU’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes organized a worship event on WKU’s South Lawn. Despite being in the middle of finals week, over 300 students gathered to worship and hear student testimonies. A local church worship band played in the round with students encircling. Three student-athletes shared their journey towards a full surrender to Christ and their baptism experience. A local pastor then explained the purpose and meaning of baptism and invited students to come receive counsel and be baptized. By the end of the evening 33 students went into the water.
But the move of God didn’t stop there. In attendance were athletes from an out-of-state softball team who had to leave the event early. They reached out to WKU’s FCA leadership to ask if they could be baptized at their nearby hotel. Arrangements were made for the next evening in the hotel swimming pool. WKU FCA leaders and the same pastor were on hand as another 26 athletes were baptized. According to reports, students from WKU, Sam Houston State University (Huntsville, TX), Jacksonville State University (Jacksonville, AL), and Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA) were baptized.
You never know what the Lord is going to do when we gather to worship Him! So here’s my suggestion and request: come to the concerts, buy the tickets, fill the venues, attend the gatherings. When we all do that, we send a clear message that our region values Christian music and opportunities to worship Jesus in unity.
