Running on Empty: Bodie’s “Heaven Knows I Tried”

Have you ever tried steering a car with the gas light on—pushing just a little farther on fumes, hoping you’ll make it to the next stop? How about your soul when it was running on empty? You keep going, hoping that somehow, your strength will be enough—but deep down, you know you’re running out of fuel.

That’s the heart behind Bodie’s new song, “Heaven Knows I Tried.”

Story Behind The Song:

Summary:

Bodie, known from The Voice and now a new voice in Christian music, shares that the song was born out of a season of striving—trying to do life his way, only to find it led him to places of weariness and anxiety.

“I know we’ve all been in a similar situation,” Bodie says. “We’ve lived for ourselves. We’ve lived by our own terms. We’ve held doors open that shouldn’t have been open for us in the first place. And we’ve chosen to live in our flesh and not by the Spirit.”

But God met him there—in the emptiness—with an invitation to surrender.

“When I’ve chosen to align myself with the will of God,” he says, “daily surrendering myself to Him, spending time in the Word, in prayer, and in worship—I’ve seen nothing but fruitfulness and restoration and joy and hope.”

“Heaven Knows I Tried” is more than a song; it’s a testimony. It’s a reminder that even when our strength fails, God’s never does. When we stop striving and start trusting, He brings peace where there was pressure, hope where there was heaviness, and life where there was loss.

Maybe that’s where you are today—tired from trying to hold it all together. Let Bodie’s words remind you that you don’t have to. God is ready to fill you again, if you’ll just let go and let Him lead.
