From Black Sheep to Beloved

Ben Fuller’s song “Black Sheep” is an anthem for anyone who has ever felt like an outsider—lost, broken, or too far gone. Ben’s own story shows how God can take even the most shattered life and make it new.

After a knee injury, Ben was prescribed pain pills, not realizing how quickly they would take hold of him. Before long, his life was consumed by addiction. Bills went unpaid, relationships were strained, and eventually he faced legal trouble. He entered rehab, but only to avoid consequences—not because he was ready to surrender. Unsurprisingly, nothing changed.

But then came Easter Sunday. That was the day Ben gave his whole heart to Christ. From that moment on, he was free. No more running, no more chains—just the life-changing grace of Jesus.

That’s the heartbeat behind “Black Sheep.” Jesus doesn’t turn away from the broken. He came for the lost, the addicted, the hurting—for all of us. When we finally give Him our whole heart, He doesn’t just repair what’s broken. He makes us brand new.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” —2 Corinthians 5:17

Reflection Questions:

  • Have you ever felt like the “black sheep” in your family, your church, or your community?
  • What might it look like for you to surrender your whole heart to Christ today?

Prayer:
Lord, thank You that You welcome the broken and call us Your own. Help me to stop holding back and fully surrender to You. Make me new, today and every day. Amen.
