Socks For Seniors Has Record Year!

More than 7,060 pairs of socks were collected as part of Christian Family Radio’s (CFR) 12th Annual Socks for Seniors Drive. Sixty local businesses and organizations opened their doors to be drop off locations. With the help of listeners and volunteers, boxes of warm fuzzy socks were donated and distributed to more than 45 Senior Care Facilities in the Southern Kentucky.

Christmas brings holiday fun with various parties and gatherings but often our elderly is left isolated. Each year, thousands of lonely and financially challenged seniors struggle with the holiday blues. That’s why CFR and its volunteers are passionate about bringing holiday cheer along with a pair of new socks to warm the hearts and feet of local Seniors.

Why socks you might ask? “We’ve had Seniors with tears in their eyes… It brings the nostalgia of family, everyone remembers getting socks from grandma and maybe at the time it doesn’t feel like something special, but these elderly people have those memories deep in their spirit,” says Heather Bitterling, CFR Volunteer.

It was a record-breaking year for the drive, allowing more Seniors than ever to feel the joy and love from their community during the Christmas season. CFR and it’s volunteers are already thinking of ways to further the impact of this community outreach.
