There’s a moment in the song “What A God” by SEU Worship where you can’t help but pause and reflect—not on what God might do, but on what He’s already done.
We often come to God with lists: prayers we hope He answers, situations we want Him to fix, doors we want Him to open. And while Scripture absolutely invites us to bring our requests to Him, this song gently shifts our focus to something deeper—gratitude for the finished work of Jesus.
Because the truth is this:
If God never does another thing for us… He has already done the greatest thing anyone could ever do.
“But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” — Romans 5:8
Before we ever reached for Him, He reached for us.
Before we cleaned up our lives, He made a way to cleanse our hearts.
Before we deserved anything, He gave us everything.
God, in His mercy, sent His one and only Son—not because we earned it, not because we were worthy, but because He is love (1 John 4:8).
Jesus didn’t just come to make life better—He came to save.
He carried the weight of our sin, endured the cross, and defeated death so that we could walk in freedom, forgiveness, and eternal life.
That’s not just a blessing… that’s everything.
And yet, how easy is it to forget?
To measure God’s goodness by our current circumstances?
To wonder if He’s really for us when life doesn’t go the way we planned?
This is where worship becomes an anchor.
Songs like “What A God” remind us that God’s goodness isn’t proven by what He’s doing right now—it was proven once and for all at the cross.
The cross declares:
- You are loved beyond measure.
- You are forgiven completely.
- You are chosen, redeemed, and made new.
Not because of who you are—but because of who He is.
So today, instead of asking, “God, what have You done for me lately?”
Let your heart say, “God, thank You for what You’ve already done.”
Because when you truly grasp the weight of the gospel, the only response is awe:
What a God.
