When Chandler Moore sings “God, I’m Just Grateful for You,” it doesn’t feel overly polished or complicated. It feels real. Honest. Almost like something you’ve prayed before without even realizing it.
And that’s probably because the heart behind it comes straight out of the Book of Psalms.
Look at these lyrics:
“Even though I don’t deserve it, You did it
Even though I couldn’t earn it, You give it
Who am I that You keep me on Your mind?
God, I’m just grateful for You.”
Let’s break it down:
“Who am I that You keep me on Your mind?”
That question is straight out of Psalm 8:4
“What is mankind that You are mindful of them…?”
David is basically saying, God… why do You even think about me? When you look at the sky, the stars, the size of the universe — it doesn’t make sense that the Creator of all of that would care about the details of your life.
But He does.
And that’s the same awe you hear in Chandler’s voice. It’s not insecurity. It’s wonder. It’s that moment when gratitude hits you and you realize, I didn’t do anything to earn this kind of attention from God.
“Even though I don’t deserve it…”
That’s Psalm 103 says God doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve. Instead, He gives mercy. He gives grace. He gives love.
If you’ve ever looked back at your life and thought, God, You were better to me than I was to You…
The Psalms are full of that same tension:
- I messed up… but You forgave me.
- I wandered… but You brought me back.
- I cried out… and You answered.
Gratitude Is the Whole Point.
Through out the Psalm, David is honest about fear, frustration, even doubt. But every time, he circles back to gratitude for God’s faithfulness. Over and over again.
That’s why the line “God, I’m just grateful for You” feels so powerful.
Just… I’m grateful for You. That’s worship at its core.
In a world where everything feels earned — promotions, approval, validation — this song reminds us of something different.
God’s love isn’t a paycheck.
His grace isn’t performance-based.
His attention isn’t something you hustle for.
So ask yourself that same question David asked thousands of years ago:
Who am I that You keep me on Your mind?
And then just sit there for a second and take-in just how loved you truly are.
Because when you really think about it… the only response that makes sense is immense gratitude.
“God, I’m just grateful for You.”
