I Can Only Imagine 2

MercyMe’s newest song, “Make It Well,” comes from a deeply honest place—one many of us know all too well. Inspired by the timeless hymn “It Is Well,” the song reflects the tension of faith when life doesn’t feel resolved. Instead of declaring everything is fine, “Make It Well” is a prayer from the middle of the struggle. It acknowledges pain, uncertainty, and unanswered questions while still choosing to trust God with the outcome. It’s a reminder that faith doesn’t require us to have it all together—it simply invites us to bring our broken places to Him and ask for healing.

The newly released music video visually captures that heart posture, reminding viewers that God is present even when restoration is still in process. Whether you’re walking through grief, disappointment, or just the weariness of everyday life, “Make It Well” meets listeners right where they are. It’s a song for the waiting, for the hoping, and for those learning to trust God one day at a time.

Adding even more depth to the moment, “Make It Well” is connected to MercyMe’s upcoming film, I Can Only Imagine 2, coming to theaters February 20th. The sequel continues the powerful true story behind the band, exploring what happens after success—when faith is tested, relationships are stretched, and God continues to write the story in unexpected ways. Just like the song, the movie points to the ongoing journey of faith, reminding us that God isn’t finished yet. Together, the music and the film invite us to trust Him—not just with the ending, but with every step along the way.

Synopsis

After the breakout success of the song “I Can Only Imagine,” MercyMe’s Bart Millard (John Michael Finley) is living the dream—sold-out arenas, a devoted fan base, and a thriving career. But behind the spotlight, Bart’s past threatens the family he’s built, especially the fragile bond with his son, Sam (Sammy Dell).

When hopeful newcomer Tim Timmons (Milo Ventimiglia, “This Is Us”) joins the band for their biggest tour yet, he unknowingly brings a renewed gratitude to Bart’s life through their unlikely friendship. Bart soon discovers that Tim carries hardships—and secrets—of his own, forcing him to face his past and repair his relationships with Sam and his wife, Shannon (Sophie Skelton), before fame costs him what matters most. Based on the heartfelt true story behind the hit single “Even If,” I CAN ONLY IMAGINE 2 is the inspiring next chapter of faith, family, and finding God in the fire.

Directed by Andrew Erwin and Brent McCorkle, written by Brent McCorkle, and starring John Michael Finley, Milo Ventimiglia, Sophie Skelton, Arielle Kebbel, Sammy Dell with Trace Adkins and Dennis Quaid.

5 out of 5 stars This movie is WONDER-full! Be prepared to laugh and cry for all the best reasons. I love it when ALL my emotions get pulled on! This story reminds me that God shapes us through the people He places in our lives—both to comfort us and to challenge us.  That “holy tension” is so necessary.   I was honored to meet the cast at Fair Trade label event; they shared how they built friendships that will last a lifetime.  Hearing them share the meaning and memories behind filming gave me a whole new appreciation for the heart behind the story.    At the end of a movie, I started thinking about who I wanted to see it with next.    YES–I am planning a movie night-out party!

You never really know what you’re going to get with a sequel. Most of the time, part twos don’t quite live up to the first. But this one digs even deeper. It’s raw, honest, and full of the kind of emotion that only comes from walking through forgiveness, pain, and the messiness of life. Watching those real, unfiltered moments between Bart and his son—and Tim Timmons’ story of his own personal struggle woven into the powerful song “Even If”—is something you won’t forget.

Without doing any spoilers, It was an overall good movie! Not as much punch in the gut with the main story like the first I can only imagine” but it does a good job of getting in an artist’s head about the business side of the ministry … “great record, now do it again.” The secondary story line grabbed me, as a guy who works in ministry, and plays in a band in church, I also wonder if I spend / spent enough time with my family. The THIRD story, based on Tim Timmon’s real life situation was also very good. Perhaps BECAUSE there were three story lines going on at the same time, is why I gave it a 3.5  There was a LOT to try to keep up with. Overall a good movie, maybe not as much “dust in the air made my eyes water” for the guys.

The movie portrait the ups and downs of what so many families deal with when they have a child battling an illness both lifelong and one that comes out of nowhere. It shows that no matter where you are in life – life is hard. Everyone has a different path to walk but God is always faithful to bring provision, restoration, and hope out of the darkness the world brings.

I highly recommend this movie — even if you haven’t seen the first I Can Only Imagine. This sequel stands strong on its own with a deeply heartfelt storyline that’s easy to connect with. It’s a wonderful family movie, but fair warning to parents… it’s definitely a tearjerker. ❤️ Come prepared with tissues!
